During a Mets game some years back Willie Randolph appealed a BOO after the improper batter grounded out.
His assumption was that he would get two outs.
It took the MLB umpires 20 minutes to sort out what any Little League umpire worth his salt would have called in 5 seconds flat because they see this quite often.
The recorded out was nullified and the batter who should have been up was called out.
Funny, but the result was that the batter who grounded out--who was a very good hitter--was now up.
But softball is different in that all recorded outs would stand as well as the batter who should have been up is also out.
