So many things can effect extension. Something as simple as the Grip, can effect extension. Holding the bat to tight, lined up wrong, Boxed knuckles, with wrong tension levels through the swing.
Try an open handed drill, looser grips.
a heavy bat will help pull the arms.
a light bat does not provide the same benefits, but a light bat gets quite abit heavier in motion. My arms, are twice as heavy as a 33 drop ten.
in this clip i have zero tension levels, i just let my arms fall, which might say something about "release".

Even though i use "box" drills "check swing" drills and "stop swing drills" i do not seem to have problems with extension with players. It could be because at the bag, i teach Fire and release.
Again i think it is tension levels.

The bat? Would that be the whole bat? Or the handle? Or just the barrel? Is that "connection" a manifestation of clamping and holding something? The boy that you posted is a very poor representation of a good swing. Why did you use it? btw, it does match your words.

Here are my thoughts, since there is some history. "Connection" is your bugaboo. It prevents the boy from bringing EVERYTHING from behind and through. It leaves the upper complex - to a large extent - out of the equation. You are from the school of thought, that the hands are "just along for the ride", right? The bat alone is the force supplier in your "connected" model. It gets thrown off the merry go round. Meanwhile, Trout is bringing his WHOLE rear-side through the ball, unencumbered. He's got a hand-path. He knows where his hands have to be - to deliver the handle - while releasing/launching the barrel through the ball. His hands recruit his body to accomplish the task.

I really have no idea what you are trying to say here. Thanks for the clip though.

LOL! I'm sure you don't. Hey, are you out to win hearts and minds??? Been a while since you've been on the marketing circuit, no?

Just a heads-up. Folks here already have a pretty good handle on things. Pretty sure everything they need is already on this site - all for free. They need only look or ask.

Nice chatting with you.

Howe does not like "connection". Free and independent hands ARE very important.
Howe ever, I use connection with all the new players in many different ways.
the first part of the barrel launch kids will leave the arms way behind, which to me means "uneducated arms". This early part of the swing to me early in the hitters development must be connected to the torso rotation, even though the sequence of the whip calls for it to be slightly behind. It will be, but by teaching connection, not to far back.

new player that has been taught connection, but this does not mean the hands cannot be adjusted.

If you have learned everything you need to learn, good for you. I prefer to think I can always learn more. Best wishes.

Certainly all the body parts should be where the body parts should be. Certainly we all want hitters to take advantage of the energy of the big parts of the body.

The last free and independent hand I saw is pictured here at about :25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msX-SizUAiQ
The rest of the hands I've seen go where the arms and body take them. :)

mann, I believe it's so much simpler. Teach the hitter the proper release and contact positions and slowly get them to square the ball over and over - hitting line drives. Once they understand that feeling, they will begin to teach themselves. They will begin to add the micro movements needed to gain additional oomph.

That's not to say other aspects won't need to be coached or tweaked, but the overall goal is learning to hit the ball with consistency and authority. Some of these guys have it bass ackwards. They think you're supposed to teach a hitter how to swing first THEN hit...

Certainly backwards chaining can be quite productive.
Yeah, especially after you've screwed a kid up by teaching them connection - that the hands are just along for the ride. LOL

Not endorsing a side in this little spat, but I love this take on things.
