I think it is more of her upper body ahead alittle, on this one swing.... her swing path is still going down, which caused downward ball flight.
I think if she lengthen her body out some that would be fixed.

I would also give her the Howard/Bustos grip....

Isn't that what drag is ?

Yes and no. You are right the back arm folded underneath would be the drag, You could also have the upper body ahead and pop the ball up.

JUst the fix I believe would be find that middle ground between where she started and this last swing.

Nice swing, I would had been happy if my DD's had a swing like that at 10.

A question for the experts, Is there a little drag in her swing? Elbow in front of hands ?

Be careful when diagnosing bat drag... The basic description of bat drag is elbow in front of hands. But sometimes things are not what they appear to be. Stand in front of a mirror and put your hands down at your side. Now open your hand and turn your arm so that your palm is facing the mirror and your thumbs are pointing out to your sides away from your body. Now look at your elbow. Is it perfectly straight? Or is there some angle to it? My understanding is that this is called "carrying angle". In general (but not always), females will have a little more angle to their arm than males. In my opinion, the amount of carrying angle will affect the view of the elbow at the RVP connection point. So what may appear to be bat drag may be nothing more than individual anatomy.

Regarding redstich's DD... If there is any bat drag there at all, it is not something that I would be worried about. For a 10 year old, she is doing awesome!

Disclosure: I am not an expert...

In the original, the player had a longer stride, head and hip traveled more. Now, we see very little of that.

I hope the message isn't that head & hip travel needs to be eliminated or I'm down the wrong path. (I realize that wasn't the only change in the before/after, but just the issue that I'm broaching.)

I love Buster Posey's swing. Head travels at least a foot forward. Front hip probably a little more than that. When front foot gets down, the forward movement is finished.

Is this sorta like tuning an engine? Some hitters can't swing wide open (Babe Ruth could, apparently), and maybe some won't run at max efficiency if they are too conservative?

Coogansbluff - When I first posted her swing She had a lot of all back and all forward to power Her swing, frontal plane, Since We have been working on trying to power Her swing from the sagittal plane, a completely different power source for Her. Not sure that I spelled that right. I don't know if any of the other posters see the different source but I do and DD feels the difference. Once she has enough swings in and it becomes muscle memory She will lengthen the stride, but not to where she was originally.

Thanks. I understand there was a change in the power source. My question wasn't specifically about what yours was doing, but the general topic of stride length and head/hip travel.

No offense and I don't mean this in a negative way toward you BUT IMO this is the problem now a days. The way hitting is being instructed is so muddy from what it use to be. People make it so complicated. It is/was drag if the elbow gets in front of the hands because now you are pulling the bat. Is this not true anymore ? IMO it is.

I don't agree with your example above. Arm down at your side has nothing to do with a swing. If you use your example and now bring your hand up in front of your shoulder with the back of the hand facing the mirror, is the elbow in front of the hands ?

Again not trying to discredit what you said or argue, just making conversation.

Bat drag is caused by the arms working independent of the body. IOW's the arms are swinging around the body vs the body swinging the arms.

For those wanting more head/hip forward movement - why?

Dad has indicated he is looking to transfer the swing from lateral/frontal momentum to a swing governed by sagittal plane actions (dual hip flexion and extension). Add to that she is hitting off a tee so there is even less off a need to move laterally.

I love the progress - her swing is better than most HS players out there.
