I am part of a committee interviewing head coach applicants for 8 travel ball teams from 10U to 16U.
Any advice for what questions I can ask? The standard history, experience, why you want the job is covered on the application.
Thanks in advance for your input.
The complaints we have gotten over the years fall into 4 categories:
1) The coach's DD plays more than anyone else on the team.
2) My kid sits more than any other kid on the team.
3) My DD pitches once in a blue moon, but the coach told me she would pitch every other game.
4) The coach yells too much.
So, I would ask:
1) How are you going to handle your DD's playing time?
2) How are you going to manage playing time for the players? How many innings in pool play? How many innings in tournament play? How many innings in a friendly game?
3) Are the players going to get equal time?
4) What is your philosophy about pickup players? Are you going to treat them worse, the same or better than the other girls on the team?
5) How are you going to divide time between your pitchers/catchers?
6) Are you familiar with Domingo Ayala and the Theory of Biesbol?
