Not sure if it's entirely unsportsmanlike but just not a coach I would want to have my kid play for...
League we play in right now has a drop dead rule after 1:30..
We're home team, up 5-4 after 4, top of the 5th
Other team gets ahead 8-5 with no outs and it's at about 1:20 or 1:25...
Girl finally pops up for the first out and then next two girls come out and swing at everything (almost before our pitcher throws the ball) so it's pretty obvious what's going on..
Bottom of the inning - they are rushing their warm-up..
And ump calls ball game and we win 5-4...(before our first batter is able to even hit)
We played a double-header and ended up winning the second as well but our coach talked to the HC and he said he didn't know the drop-dead rule and that another parent/AC told him to do it..
What gets me is that - we had the top of our lineup coming up - so chances are, even the speed up tactic they used wasn't going to make much of a diff.
You lost and taught your girls a bad way to play...
I get time mgt is useful in some sports but in regular softball, it's not always going to save you..

So Cal
nixxy311 youre stirring a hornets nest with time management in softball... :D

In general Ive found (sometimes the hard way) that the best way to handle poor sportstmanship by other coaches is to take good sportsmanship to a higher level than normal. Nothing annoys an team full of brats and jerks for coaches than getting their butts handed to them by a team full of polite angels that are the showcase of sportsmanship... if you try and get down to their level you will for sure be on the loosing side.. they have a lot more talent at being jerks and practice it often..

I hate when a teams wastes time to try and run out the clock, but in the case above I don't see the problem of the coach trying to rush an inning. DD has played for 5 years now and we have never once played a drop dead game so maybe I might feel different if I experienced one.
