DD got invited to play up the next few weeks. She's 14U now. Playing up in a showcase in 18U this weekend. It's making me nervous about the jump in level of play.

They wouldn't have asked her to play if they didn't believe she was ready! She's got this! Although you might want to prepare her - the dugout could get a little spicy. 18 year old's conversations are quite a bit different than 14's. But besides that she will have fun and learn a lot!

DD played one year of 16U when she was still 14U eligible, then jumped to 18U. While the difference in skill level between a good 14U player and an 18U player is noticeable, it's not a huge difference. She'll be fine.

You'll still be nervous, though. I'm not sure that ever goes away. I think you just get used to it.

I'm with comocoach. Often times at our tournaments, 14u and 16+u will be playing at the same events. I've sat and watched several of these games. There isn't a massive difference between the two. A difference yes, but it's not massive. At 14 "most" girls are done growing. Any strength gains will be through work, not as much nature. What you see past 14u is skill polishing more than pure natural strength gains from growing. JMHO anyways.

DD jumped level this year.

I asked coach to make sure she was in the right position if she played OF, they can hit the ball. Go back and go back further if she plays OF. :)

Good luck your DD!

One other thing ....

DD can handle the poor rise, drop and faster pitchers. It is the change of speed that causes her trouble.

Have her jump on strikes early when she is batting.

So Cal
If she's already in HS, she's already playing with and against 18U players. If she's not in HS yet, these are the players she will be playing with and against next year.

My dd did it. Think of it this way, if your dd is serious about HS ball, and I understand some of your dds are not, if they make varsity, they will playing against girl's this old. My dd didn't have a problem at all but a lot of that had to do with the coaching staff of the team she played for.

My DD isn't shy when it comes to swinging the bat early. She seldom watches a strike go by. Still worried, these are some of the best teams in California she will be playing against.
