When I first joined this site in 2009 I was a "NEWsoftballdad", just starting 10U. Well, here we are almost 8 years later and I am about to be a "NOsoftballdad". DD is a rising senior and has decided not to play past high school, due to a lot of factors, job, school work, college major (Physical Therapy), and the fact she wants to go to East Carolina, where she wasn't recruited to play. That also means she is not going to play a competitive showcase next year either.

We are heading into our final weekend and I am not sure how I feel yet. I know it will hit me when she walks of the field for the last time on Sunday afternoon. How many hours spent together, how many tears and cheers, BP reps, fly balls, early morning warm-ups and late nights at team dinners, hotel stays and of course hotel breakfasts Walk-off hits, game ending strikeouts, and everything in between.

We will still have the senior year of HS ball, but that is so different.

I want to thank all of DFP for the support and entertainment over the last 8 years, I am so happy I found this site, and what it has given me, and best of luck to all of those who are just starting their journeys together, it will be a great ride!

Almost that time....YEP!!!! DD will be a senior next year also, and says she is going to play high school. She decided not to play at all this summer. She has lots of friends that are still playing travel ball and she is missing it a little bit, but just did not want to have that commitment all summer. She has never really aspired to play college ball.

And weird thing, DD is also considering PT as a career. She has been interested in it ever since her spine surgery almost three years ago now. She had PT starting day 2 after surgery, and for several months after.

I hate it when people leave DFP after their DD's hang up their cleats.

Please come back occasionally and say hello.

Let us know how your DD is doing in her life after softball.

As for my DD 1, whose last game was a little over 4 years ago:
DD 1 finished her freshman year at Wisco as a biochem major, hoping for med school. Her roommate, a neighbor of ours, was born in the Bir Tibetan Colony in India. DD 1 has been in India the past 2 months volunteering at a Tibetan medical clinic in Bir, Himachal Pradesh, and is having the time of her life.

Just think of all the ways your DD will make you proud. Think of her best moment ever on the field. How proud were you then? Multiply that by 1000 when she gets her degree and license.

Good luck to your DD!! I understand the struggle she faces as my DD is also a 2018 and also pursuing PT.

Want to add one more coincidence? My daughter's number has been 26 since 8U. I assume that is your DD's number too. I can't go with the Penguin though, Flyer fan here.

Lol!! DD was 26 for 4 years. Now 11 but didn't feel like changing my profile... I had been a Flyers fan for years. Then added the Penguins when I went to Penn State. It was hard to find Flyers games on tv but the Penguins were on all the time.

I wrote a similar post a couple of years ago. And then my dd found her university had a club team. Part of a national association. Turned out to be a good fit for my dd and fit well in her academic schedule. East Carolina has a NSCA club team. If she still wants to play, she might want to look into it.

So, after all of that, my DD has decided to play her final year of 18U ball after all. I had sent her an email with her lifetime stats that I had compiled since her first 10U season and she said it made her sad to think she wasn't going to play when she had one more year left. So I guess it gave us a dry run of what we will do next year! Thanks for all of the kind words and thoughts, but I guess I will be hanging around here one more year.
