"How does she stay upright in a stiff wind" was the question asked about DD yesterday during her game.

I have mentioned she is little before. She is finally growing taller (5'2" with cleats on) but only 80 lbs fully clothed. Skinny little thing.

This question came right before she hit a triple 10 feet from the right field 230' fence. So close...

my DD is about the same size. She almost has to run around in the shower just to get wet! Nothing but legs and arms right now, so i think we still have a good bit of growing to do. She stays upright in a strong wind by turning sideways!

LOL good stuff. Mine is about 5' and 100 lbs. playing 14U. Nothing makes me smile more than when coach for the other team moves his outfielders in when she's up to bat, and her burning them by sending one 20 feet over there head.

Last year in 12U when she took the field for the first inning of a tournament the ump said something like "That balls almost as big as you are....can you make that throw from short to first?" Her response..."just watch me" lol.

Love that!
DD had an ump pat her on the head and give her a high five the other day when she was catching. I asked her why later - she told me - he said - "5 - I had zero confidence that you could throw from your knees to make a tag and boy - did you prove me wrong. Plus - I don't think I've ever been so well protected".

She *can* throw from her knees but prefers to throw from her feet - but the throw down she had feom her knees in this case was spot on. (It was an All Star game too so she was pretty happy).

Don't ever estimate those little ones. They will surprise you!

I have a taller kid and coaches often moved outfielders way back only to have her hit a blooper 20ft in front of them. Then they’d move in for the smaller girls and the ball would go over their heads. Not a good idea to judge hitting by height.

That's fantastic! I love it when a tiny thing comes up and knocks one over the outfielders' heads! And usually they are going to get at least a triple out of it since they tend to be fast too.

It think the mini-DD's deserve their own thread. Of course I'm also biased. DD is a 14U, 5' 3", about 100lbs.

I love watching her pop it over the outfielders heads, but my favorite was in a HS game this spring. Outfield was playing in. The first pitch she takes a full swing, foul ball. They look at each other and move back. Next pitch she slaps foul. They look at each other and move back in. The next pitch she full swings another foul. Now they're looking at each other, and just shaking their heads. I can't remember what she eventually put in play, but the sequence was priceless.

Lol - the comments about DD's size were aplenty this week during the Sparkler Jr.

Aside from the comment in the first post...

On Friday HC pulled the #2 catcher and put DD in. DD is the #1 catcher on this team but is also very valuable in the OF. The umpire behind the plate said "Oh - they brought in the little one huh? Don't worry hun, I'm sure you're not done growing yet - but God bless you for giving this a try." I'm sure he assumed he was going to get beat up with her there. After the game he called her "mighty mouse".

Umpire yesterday told her after the game - "I don't usually care for small or lefty catchers but you proved me wrong on both fronts".

Don't judge a book...
