......etc, etc, etc

The final week of the season, the HC wasn't at the Saturday games and the AC told me that he wasn't going to pitch my DD because all she did was strike everyone out.

Let me get this straight... your DD doesn't get to pitch because she is too good for the level she is playing.

Well it is pretty simple - she is on the wrong team. It doesn't matter at this age whether she finds a better 10U team or just finds an appropriate older 12U team who needs here. Maybe it is inconvenient for you - you are going to have to figure it out. Older team may be an easier option for you based on your posts.

If you want to stay on this team you are going to talk to the coaches. There has to be some sort of balance in developing players and there is plenty of games to pitch. It is possible that your coaches realize that your DD is not long for this team, know she is going to move on and are trying to find out who on the team are going to be their pitchers when your DD does move on. That is a weird way to go about it - most travel coaches would be pitching your DD as much as is reasonable.

I have already set a time to discuss my DD's development with the coaches at our next practice. I think 12u is probably best option.

Another thing you may want to consider is introducing yourself to the coaches on the 10U TB teams around you and ask if she can come to there batting practices and throw live to there hitters. This will benefit both her and them. My daughters will also throw live at her private hitting instructors practices. I have three DD's and I have found it very beneficial to get to know as many coaches as you can if you daughter is a pitcher. Another thing you may want to discuss with her coaches is the possibility of her playing with other teams on occasion to get some extra circle time. Good Luck.

Thanks. She played for 2 teams last year and got a ton of circle time which was beneficial as she was converting from HE to IR. One of my suggestions to our coaching staff is to let DD pitch during our hitting sessions.

What JAD is trying to say is if you are actually playing 8 pitchers and have a 1/3 of your team that is not good enough to play but are on the team because they "know" the coach then it's not really Travel Ball...it's something else.

If you have played all the other travel ball teams in the area during the fall and beat them all even with your #5 pitcher then there is not much you can do if you don't want to travel an hour to play on another team.
Snotbubbles could start his own team...I bet half the TB teams were created because a parent wanted to create an opportunity for their child to play and improve.

You're right of course, but I chuckled when I think of how most teams built around one parents DD are a joke. It's usually someone who thinks their DD is too good and being held back by her current team and they form a team with a bunch of other disgruntled parents. What could go wrong there? :)

DD went from not pitching to pitching both games in DH, I almost said something but DD beat me too it.

I have learned there is never a perfect amount of innings for DD and anal dad.

Back to my original post, she needs to get some innings. Talk to them.

I have two potential guesses for the situation. Either the coach has a plan that he is developing, or he is an idiot. I guess that is for you to determine.

1) If he has a plan, I wouldn't think he would mind talking about it a little. As you stated, Pennsylvania is not exactly a hot bed of 10u teams. There are tons of 12u teams around, but 10u is very limited. And the talent disparity between 10u teams is absolutely huge. In my section of PA, younger travel teams are typically built from rec ball pitchers. In many cases the pitchers are the best players on the rec teams and they will join with the other rec ball team's best players (other pitchers), etc., etc. DD didn't even play travel ball until 12u. The team she was on had 12 players rostered. 11 of them pitched rec ball. During our fall "scrimmage" season, we focused on "trying out" all 11 pitchers to see which ones were most capable of pitching during tournaments. When everything shook out, DD and one other ended up as the primary pitchers (DD was #2). 2 other girls pitched some innings during tournaments but mostly on Saturdays. The others didn't pitch at all for various reasons. I should mention that all but one player was new to travel ball at that point in time. We were all rookies (coaches included). But we explained to the parents up front what we were trying to do, and it worked out pretty well for us.
2) Then again, he may not have a plan at all.... In that case, I wish you the best of luck.

I find your experience interesting. My DD's both played on several teams with daddy HCs and with the exception of one HC (12U) we never had any issues. I have seen several cases of a daddy AC whose DD seemed to get preferential treatment as far as spot in the batting order and position played. In all those cases, the HC was not a parent.
