Illinois Softball Coaches Association Coaches Clinic - Jan 26th 2018
The Illinois Softball Coaches Association is having their yearly clinic on Friday, January 26th, 2018 in Marengo, IL at Club Fusion Volleyball Center. This years keynote presenters are: Kathryn Gleason(Northern Kentucky University) and Angel Santiago (Nicholls State University)
Kathryn Gleason – Division I -Head Coach at Northern Kentucky University
Kathryn Gleason, a 20-year coaching veteran with a combined four appearances in the Women’s College World Series as a player and as an assistant, was named the fifth head coach of the Northern Kentucky University softball program on Aug. 3, 2015. Gleason earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management and communications from the University of Michigan in 1996 and played in the `95 and `96 Women’s College World Series while serving as co-captain of the `96 team.
A native of Country Club Hills, Illinois, Gleason was inducted into the Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame as “Athlete of the Year” in the 2002
induction class. She was also inducted into the East Suburban Catholic Conference High School Hall of Fame in March 2008.
Angel Santiago – Division I – Head Coach at Nicholls State University
Angel Santiago is in his seventh season at the helm of the Nicholls softball program. Santiago, a native of Chicago Heights, Ill., was an assistant coach for eight years at Florida State and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). A former minor league baseball player, Santiago spent three seasons at Florida State as an assistant for the Seminole softball program.
Known for being a specialist in hitting and catching, Santiago guided FSU to a .297 batting average in 2010, its highest mark since 2003. In the same season, the team’s 212 total walks were the most since the 2004 season, just to name a few. The ‘Noles also posted just 226 strikeouts at the plate; the fewest since the 1998 campaign. The ‘Noles systematically excelled in many statistical numbers posted prior to his arrival.
