DD played her first HS game today, actually 3 games. Summer ball tournament. She is a upcoming 9th grader. She plays 2B in TB but there is a very good Senior on the team that holds down 2B, and does it very very well. Yesterday the HC asked her if she ever played 3B. She said No Sir. He said "well you will do fine, go be a ball player". She had never played a single inning at 3B and the next day she was the starter on the varsity. Looked like she was born there. Turned an unassisted double play and fielded every ball hit to her and threw the runner out. Moved without the ball perfectly. I was stunned but couldn't have been more proud of her.

Good post and better lesson to be learned. That's what it boils down to. "Go be a ball player." Not go be a SS or CF or 2B. BE A BALL PLAYER. There will always be someone better, older that has YOUR position. It doesn't matter where you play, as long as you do play...somewhere and in the starting 9 on whatever team you play for.

DD's team had an amazing last inning in a game this weekend and held a great team to a tie. DD's team was in the field, bases loaded no outs, top of the line up. They crashed the infield and played like champs. The had a bang-bang force at home and turned a double at 1st and then DD made a flying tag out at home on a wild pitch. DD had probably the best game of her short little life behind the plate in that game this weekend. 2 pop up foul catches (with her mask on of course), 2 bang-bang forces outs at home - turning a double on one, and 2 diving tags outs at home. She hardly let anything past her. After the game the opposing coach came over to her in the parking lot and asked if she was the catcher. She said yes. He told her he had never had a catcher tag his best baserunner out this season - and DD did it 2x in the same game. She was beaming!
