Is this what Pitt softball wants to be known for?

The worst part:
The players who are thought to have reported the hazing were forced from the team, and now require security. One was moved from her dorm.

My opinion? The coaching staff probably knew what was going on.
Scrap the entire program, hire new coaches, and start a new team next year. If the 2 players who reported the hazing wish to return, they should be given spots on the new team. No other players deserve a spot on the team.

College softball is a grind. These girls are teenagers to 22 years old. They go to school full time, workout every day, practice or play everyday, do homework when they travel are stuck with the same group if people constantly... Are still playing when all the other students are home for the summer... Let them blow off some steam for 45 seconds and all of a sudden they aren't considered serious about the game.

This isn't about not letting players have some fun, it's about taking things to an extreme because the game is nationally televised now. There is a time and place for everything and performing these orchestrated antics during a game, has crossed the line. ESPN loves it because it's entertainment but in the long run hurts the game because all the hard work and sacrifice these players have done over the years is diminished to a 30 second skit that has zero to do softball. Some of these D1 coaches could take a lesson from Mike Candrea, Sue Enquist, and Mike White.

You might have missed it, but several teams were having fun during their coach's interviews. Pitt was not the only one. There is absolutely nothing run with it. It keeps the girls light and loose.

Don't be the fun police.

You might have missed it but during the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournament not a single bench player wore clown masks and performed pre-orchestrated antics to draw attention to themselves. I don't think it's too much to ask for college players to be 100% into the game for 2 hours is it? What are the odds that a pinch hitter or relief pitcher is mentally focused on getting a game winning hit or strikeout a batter when she has just been wearing a plastic horse head and mocking her head coach between innings? It's one of the things that separate the good teams from the great teams, being mentally prepared for the game. I have a hunch that in super regionals and the WCWS you will be seeing a lot less of these antics as the better teams will be focused on trying to win a national championships and spending less time on perfecting their miss Pac Man routines.
