Does it help to think/feel having the ball come out the pinky side of the hand?
Yes, that helps, another pointer for pitchers that get cues from follow through is that the pinky leads the follow through.
The important thing is to not palm the ball, the fingertips are along the equator of the ball. You may need to experiment with having the "C" on a four seam grip either parallel to the line of your thumb/index finger or opposite, depending on your own hand geometry (whichever gets you three fingers on a seam, though a two finger grip works fine if your hands are big enough) It's a four seam spin.
