ball towards 3rd or up?

What is the correct internal rotation mechanic? I know Hillhouse teaches to have the ball towards 3rd (just prior to release) and then the follow through which is most natural across the body but the famous Ueno commercial video has Ueno (from what I can see as most of the time it is out of view) with ball facing up, prior to release - it seems that the release using this style is straight out in front of the body with the wrist/forearm naturally releasing from the windup. I know people say the release doesn't matter just let it be natural - but is there a more favorable way to hold the ball for the best mechanics (up or towards 3rd).

Try it for yourself. Feel the difference. It's remarkable how a loose arm with elbow leading down the backside, a palm up and elbow pausing at the side contributes to a good whip. Don't trust what you hear until you can feel the difference.
