Yesterday after a game the behind the plate ump comes up to my dd and asks who taught her to start wide and slide her foot over during her wind up she said me dad(told me later she wanted to say javasource).I walk up and he asks me if I ever saw any other pitchers do that and I promptly say Monica Abbott and others,he kinda rolls his eyes and says well I been an ump for a long time and I've never seen any high level pitchers "round here" that do and that she would be more consistent without it(7k 3bb in 3 innings) I blow it off and move on but it was weird never had an ump do that

He needs to get out more.

Clearly he should stick to umping. But, it is quite common for folks to not actually know what "elite" pitchers do. They just claim to know.

Our Ump in REC tonight was great.
My DD was warming up and I was coaching her (I'm a AC on her REC team). He called me over and said "you want me to give her a REC strike zone or do you want me to push her?"
I knew what he meant and said "push her"
He squeezed her tight.. the other coaches on our team did not know.. He looked at me and winked a few times..
DD pitched 4 innings gave up 2 runs and struck out 7.
He was holding her to a travel strike zone and the girl from the other team to a REC zone..
That's fair... the other girl does not play travel.
He kept it fair and I respect that. I told DD what happened after the game. She said "oh... that makes sense, I was wondering".

Sometimes Blue gets it right.

The zone IS what it IS.... That umpires integrity is in question imo.... We can't bend the rules to cater to whom ever is playing.
But congrats to your dd and her 7 k's.....

I don't mind a bigger strike zone for a rec league vs. A-level travel. But umpires have no business making side deals or special favors with the father of one particular pitcher, or having one zone for one team, and one for another.

It is frustrating, but your DD has to learn to ignore the problems and keep pitching.

The best thing to tell your DD is:

"You can whine and cry as much as you want, but the ump is not going to change anything for you. Pitch to his zone."

Agree with the advice. My DD doesn't pitch, though. I was just echoing CJ's sentiments.

So we should mimic local high level pitchers and not the high level pitchers in the world.
