She is 11. She used to come over top of the ball. Since she learned the flip change, now she is rolling her wrist and or shoulder and the ball seems to be released with her hand position in more of a horseshoe with her thumb at the top. Velocity has gone down. She knows what the issue is but I think the muscle memory takes over. I will put a clip up that shows this as soon as I can.
Cheers,
Jason
Yes, A video clip will help and you'll get some very good advice from the cream of the crop here. I don't consider myself there yet but a fellow can dream, .
I having a hard time picturing over the top of the ball, like turning a doorknob maybe to get to the flip change? The horseshoe grip you explained possibly sounds like she IRing early and could be from practicing the flip change. I don't use the flip change as when my student try it has a backspin (RB like) to it and normally comes across the plate as a meatball. When I have them work on the change-up I make sure they throw FB as well, This helps them differentiate between the two pitches.
