Back on the dirt...
I don't follow the spins people discuss on this board or know what flipping your hand over causes in a FB. I was just watching bullet spin a few hours ago, and I stand by it being a mistake no matter how you get it. That pitcher will not be a pitcher on my team, when the one next to her is pitching proper spins.

Find me one in the world (65 mph and bullet), find me one that is HS age, find me one that actually throws FBs (they will be throwing movement), etc. However, a bullet spin FB is a perfectly straight pitch, and I do like the spinners over the Fastballers with a straight path to their pitch.

If you "don't know", how can you make such statements? Just a little confusing to me.

When my DD stays inside the ball, she will start throwing with bullet spin. I think it seems to happen when we really focus on being palm up at 9 o'clock. She will sometimes supinate her arm as she IR's, and I do think this results in her index finger being the last on the ball and rides up the side of it.

The actual motion reminds me of BM's riseball mechanic but with a bad finish.

But Cat does not throw a FB in games and neither does Lawrie (I think that is her?). Lawrie looks like she is throwing a rise and if it is bullet spin she should fix that. Don't care if they are famous or not.

How do you know that? You don't think that she throws a heater on the corner on a 3-2 count occasionally? I have a few games of her on DVR and I watch them occasionally, lots of drop/rise/curve but also pitches that do not look like they curve or rise and go pretty straight and fast like a corkscrew fastball.

And as for the bullet spin riseball, you should actually catch a few of your pitcher's "riseballs", most of the "riseballs" out there are actually bullet spin fastballs similar to what you see in the clip a few posts back of Lawrie. Girls that really have good riseball spin are few and far between.

You just always find more and more ways to make yourself less and less credible to the members of this board...old and new. That's a true talent.

JJ you beat me to it. ^^^ What he said.

Thanks Knight for the clips.

Oh, btw there is a sophmore in my local school district. Not my student but I've given her some pointers. That throws, so I'm told, around 65. Now that is here-say but she is sought after by 18U high level travel ball teams. I watch her come up from 10u. Know the family. Great kid. I can't tell you if her fastball is bullet or not. I don't have that type of equipment but I know I don't want to catch for her unless I'm suited up. She'll be starting Varsity this year. The high school wanted her last year but she was only in Jr. High. If she would by chance leave my area and show up to your "so-called" high school, OILF. You wouldn't give a d@.. what her fastball looked like. I guarantee it. I'm so confident with this girl that she put your number one on the bench.

Sorry for the digression. The point to the OP is the bullet spin may not be that big a problem and its an easy fix, if you even want to fix it. It can have it's uses. That why I asked the age of the athlete.

How old is your DD? Depending on age bullet spin may not be so bad. I would recommend that you read over the I/R stickies at the top of this section.

Oh, welcome to the board!

She is 11. She used to come over top of the ball. Since she learned the flip change, now she is rolling her wrist and or shoulder and the ball seems to be released with her hand position in more of a horseshoe with her thumb at the top. Velocity has gone down. She knows what the issue is but I think the muscle memory takes over. I will put a clip up that shows this as soon as I can.

Cheers,

Jason

We are not here yet in our journey, but I bet a bullet spin fastball / rollover drop combo would be more effective than a peel drop / rollover drop combo.

DD doesn't throw much "junk" right now as we are still working mechanics, but this has me thinking. She can throw bullet spin (by staying inside the ball) or peel drop fastballs (when I get on her about the former). If I can get her to throw the bullet spin from low trajectory to up in the zone, we could call that a riseball. Seems we just need to change what we call things...

Bullet spin = Fastball
Peel drop = Dropball
Bullet spin (low to high) = Riseball

Throw in a change up and we're set for a little while. :p
