I have always used a bucket until recently for the concerns mentioned about height so I either kneel or find something shorter. I used to always stand up while she is warming up focusing on underhand throwing mechanics but I started noticing she was having issues throwing too high a lot while pitching so I cut that out and got down for that also.

The milk crate is much better than the five gallon bucket - lower to ground and more stable

Milk crate is a pretty good idea. I don't know how many times I've gone "turtle" in the dirt trying to get out of the way of a bad pitch.

I've taken a few backwards spills off the 5 gallon bucket trying to snag a wild one from DD. Maybe I should divorce and marry a milkman.

That was a good one. I am old enough to remember when our family did have our milk delivered by a milkman. Now that I think of it, I don't really resemble my falther's side, hmmmm....

We had milk delivered to our house when I was a kid AND I still have a VHS player - lol. Between yesterday and today, I'm starting to feel ancient. Definitely not OLD SCHOOL though.

I've always used a bucket. Used a lawn chair once at a tournament when I forgot my bucket.

My parents all use buckets, I try to steer them away from the large ball buckets and keep them to 5 gallon, 3 gallon or milk crates.

I've had one mom that squatted.

I've had a couple of moms that have stood because they're afraid of the ball and no matter how I explain to them that lower is better they convince themselves out of fear that by just lowering the glove it makes up for them standing.
Every single parent I've had that stands when they catch has a pitcher that consistently throws high.

The cheap milk crate copy cats from the stores didn't hold up too well. But Rubbermaid makes a great step stool that is about 12" tall that I swear by. It also has rubber feet if you are indoor and don't want to slide around. I find it is the perfect help for someone whose knees are getting older :(

I use the smaller bucket found at Home Depot or Lowes which are not as high as the standard ball bucket. I always use my right throwing hand, thumb in fist between my legs as extra protection, especially when I occasionally ditch the bucket to get lower and become a better target.

With that said, I'm not sure that it really matters too much because the vast majority of pitches caught will be with her team catchers not on buckets at practice, pregame warmups, and during games and in between innings. The ratio of no bucket to bucket is probably 4-1
