Based on her mechanics it would be very difficult for her not to leap. Although it is open to debate if it would or would not get called. I have seen pitchers get away with worse.

at the 2 second mark in the video it looks like her push foot is off the ground. With coach's eye, you can slow mo the video and go frame by frame to see exactly what is happening.

All of this would be moot if the softball governing bodies would simply get a clue and let women pitch the same as men...JMHO.

Something needs to change but be careful what you wish for as that would provide an extreme advantage to the pitcher. I did this experiment with some of my very best college pitchers and the results were amazing, especially with the movement pitchers. One observer likened it to watching someone throw a wiffle ball.

Sticks, was she called for an IP or are you just asking if this is a legal motion?

Since I'm a pitching coach and not a hitting coach, I would have no problems with this change.

she looks to me like she may have a very slight leap, but the practical reality (IMO) is that the faster she is- the more likely the opposing coach will ask the umpire to cite her as the umpires are unlikely to say anything unless prodded to- if they (the other coaches) are not threatened, no one will say anything.

Even freeze framing it I cant say for sure if the foot is off the ground or not. And if its requiring freeze frame to even see if foot may be off the ground it is not going to be called in real time.

Is it illegal? Maybe...whatever she is doing with her feet shifting at the beginning, but I would have to be closer to tell. Her drag foot may or may not be staying in contact. What I do know is you have almost no chance of getting that called for an IP. I have never in three years of TB at 12u and 14u seen a pitcher called for an IP because of her drag foot not staying in contact with the ground. I have even seen one pitcher come literally 12 inches off the ground. Blues response was "they all do it". The only IP I have ever seen called a few times is when the pitcher has the ball in her glove, puts her hand in the glove, separates the glove and hand and then back together again.

Two feet on the rubber and not pausing before your motion will get blue to give you a verbal conference between innings, but no IP. If they are 12u and below I get the fact to not call them on it and let the coaches know what they are doing. From 14u and up you have to start calling it or they will never correct it.
