I know what the yips are....how do you teach a kid to get rid of the yips when she is trying to come back from a concussion? Pitching, hitting and batting.

After her warm up pitches, she squatted down on 1 knee for the throw down. She turned her head to pick up some dirt and the throw from the catcher hit her in the head. The ball actually hit her so hard it flew over the 1b dugout.

We have her seeing an outside counselor. She finally threw to some bunters on Sunday....she did ok. Batting front toss is fine, me putting in balls in a machine is fine (I hate machines but in this case coming back I wanted her to see 55-60 before she steps in on live pitching.) Everything else not good but we are seeing improvement.

So much depends on the individual. Some take more time and some less. It seems you are going about it the right way in this case. Baby steps and at her speed and comfort level. It will come in time. A sport psychologist may help as well, and videos of her being successful before her injury maybe? Good luck

My student made the JV. She is a freshman. They are very happy.

I have a lesson with her, Sunday, so we will see if she can throw.

I often wondered, if this happened to my DD, if having her make technically correct throws at half speed would help. The catch being I would blind fold her. Then after each throw have her work up to full speed. The throw may not be on target, but if it's 2-3 feet off versus 10-15 feet, I would call that a success.

There have been times when I tell her to "stop aiming", and make the throw and let her body do what it knows to do.

I may just do this one day for grins and giggles. :)
