Sadly, playing softball has come to an end for DD.

Sorry to hear that your DD is forced to give up something she loves to do. Maybe she can try a non-contact sport like bowling, golf, track or swimming once she recovers.

Best wishes to her and hope she makes a speedy recovery. The world needs more engineers. They make the world the fantastic place it is to live in.

Wow, that's a lot of concussions. I agree it is dangerous now. I have a young man in my class who fell on the stairs of his house. It is his first concussion and he just can't recover. I can't imagine that many concussions. Prayers to you and your dd.

Nope, each and every one was a foul tip back to her helmet while she was catching. Not much you can do about foul tips. They happen too fast. She just had a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Wow. If you don't mind me asking, what was her helmet of choice?

FWIW, considering the serious lack of research on concussions and long term effects, the decision to be safer is a solid one IMO. As a coach and a dad, I will always err on the side of caution when it comes to head injuries (to the point of forbidding DS to play full contact football, and requiring all of my infielders to wear fielding masks).

Again, best wishes for your DD's speedy recovery.

Very sorry to hear that and I wish your daughter all the best as she works on recovery. We are much farther along than ever in understanding and working with TBI's, continue working closely with your Dr. and explore all the new research being done. I work with a non-profit org that helps a lot of SCI & TBI patients and the progress they are making with many is amazing compared to 10 - 20 yrs ago. As the father of a catcher this is an ongoing cause for concern and I must admit I have the same question that BuckeyeGuy just asked about the helmet? Can't protect or avoid everything but I'll sure do what I can to manage the risks. Thank you for sharing your daughter's story and the information. Again, best wishes for your DD!!
