Apparently another contestant for idiot of the day throws her hat into the ring.

Stacey Nuveman, San Diego State University assistant softball coach, offended some viewers when she said on national TV that her players should “toughen up” instead of wearing batting face masks.

Also an ESPN commentator, Nuveman made her comment during the Kentucky vs. California Super Regional game on Sunday, May 29.

“I don’t like (face masks). I think they’re cumbersome. I tell my (SDSU) girls who wear them, ‘come on, toughen up’.”

I found an email link to her on her website and invited her to join our discussion here. Maybe she will join us.

I wonder how many games she caught without a mask?

We faced a girl this weekend that was throwing dead center at about 50 MPH and not wearing a mask. I thought to myself "are her parents stupid? or oblivious?" We hit back to back home runs, hard liner shots, and I thought surely they will either take her out, or put a mask on her. Nope, she kept right on throwing right over the plate, after it was 9-0, we just started small balling because we were seriously concerned for her safety. Until we started small balling, I couldn't watch, I was really scared for her.

Said it before - will say it again to anyone who thinks wearing a mask is somehow a sign of weakness..."Go catch a game without a mask on...I don't mind that your daughter doesn't wear a mask, so why does it bother you so much that mine does?"

Idiot. Just another person using their commentator status to climb on a soapbox. The sad part is, some people listen to this garbage and because it's her, will actually believe her and think they should follow what she says.

I just posted in another thread and saw this thread. Until you witness a shot up the middle hitting a pitcher in the face or corners who are way up or charging you will change your mind about your dd wearing one.
