At 12u,14u, 16u what other positions do you have your pitcher play? Does it depend on the athlete? I have some guys tell me either outfield or first base because of the amount of time it takes to work on pitching. thanks

I would think it would depend a lot on athlete and level of play. The higher the level of play and older the group the more likely the 1B/OF will hold.

DD is long and athletic - perfect 1st baseman when not pitching. I would be a bit shy of putting one of my top pitchers anywhere else but 1B.

My DD is in 12U and plays 2B when she isn't pitching with occasional stints in the OF and SS. This is ideal for our team as our other pitcher also plays 2B when not pitching so they just rotate through the position.

I suspect that sometime in the future she may decide to transition to either being a full time pitcher and play OF or she will become a full time 2B and not pitch.

Depends so much on the athlete and the team make up. My dd has played everything other then 3rd. Typically she plays 1st or center but because of team make up there are times she plays ss when our ss is pitching. The other day she caught. It all depends on the situation.

At 12U - 16U it really does not matter where they play as it may have little bearing on what she does in the future. As she gets close to college you need to take a step back and re-evaluate things. What will be her role in college? At one extreme, will she be an ace whose primary contribution is pitching? How many other pitchers are there? If they lose her is the season done? If so she probably will not hit or play a position. Before my DD signed her NLI the coaches were very clear that she would never hit or play outside the circle.

Conversely if she is a competent pitcher and can contribute with her glove, stick, and speed then she can pretty much play anywhere with the possible exception of catcher. Despite the popularity in HS and TB I do not see many pitchers playing 1B in college as it becomes more specialized and a much more dangerous position, but there are some exceptions. Seems that DH or OF are the most popular.

It depends on her as an athlete. My dd is slow, but is tall with a good glove, so she typically plays at 1B when not pitching. My other two pitchers play between SS and 2B...

My DD is 2nd year 14u. When not pitching, she LOVES RF/CF. However, she can plug a hole anywhere but behind the plate.

My DD is the man pitcher for her team. Head-to-Head, my daughter could beat out the current shortstop for her position. However, since my daughter would be there less than half the time, the coach preferred to have regular players at every infield position. So, he uses my daughter, when she is not pitching, as a utility player playing mostly at second and shortstop.
