It is not pitch counts that are silly, rather it is the arbitrary and capricious manner in which some implement and use them. For a properly conditioned athlete who demonstrates proper mechanics 200 pitches in a day may not be an issue. Conversely for a poorly conditioned individual who has horrendous mechanics 1 pitch may be too many. To propose a 1 size fits all pitch count which is based solely on a players age, with zero regard to other factors which are actually relevant is well beyond silly.
