There have been a lot of posts about "getting the most out of players". I've been trying to figure out why some coaches like Ken, Cannonball, and others continually produce high achieving teams, while other coaches struggle with getting the most out of their players. Some coaches seem to do it effortlessly.

Attached is a document showing the reasons boys and girls play sports. This is based on a study performed by the Youth Sports Institute of Michigan State University. The survey was of 3900 children, grades 7-12.

Since about 95% of the time on a team is spent doing something other than playing a game, coaches need to incorporate activities related to these elements into each practice.

Interesting that winning is not even in the top 5 for either boys or girls. I guess it doesn't become #1 until you become an adult and coach youth sports!
