Interesting to read that not all Division 1 schools are funded by NCAA 🤷‍♀️

These links might help with understanding stacking scholarships at schools where it is allowed.

Really this should be clarified that D1 does not have less amount of scholarships available.
* *EDITED MOST have the addition of athletic money.
What they have are 12 full ride athletic scholarships that can be distributed how the coach wants. In addition to all the other type of scholarship money available at d3s like academic money and Merit money.
Many parents are already deep into travel softball as a way to free college before they find out that not every college player is on a full ride. Once the absolute studs get their piece there are 8-9 scholarships left to divide up amongst the rest of the roster.

This is one of the reasons academics are so important.

DDs P5 school scrimmaged a good D2 school the other day. One of her HS teammates plays for said D2 school. She reached every at bat. It was significantly evident that she was 2 levels above any other player on that team. D1 players are a bit better imo.

This is why it is good to have a broader discussion about the options and how scholarship and monies are available.

D1 rosters are just deeper with talent. Other divisions may have 2 or 3 players that are better than the rest of their roster.

Raising good kids IS an accomplishment! The illusion of status is fleeting and humorous when folks flaunt it or haven't earned it for themselves.
Definitely! To that point, hear people saying things like she's getting a full ride. Really its FAFSA money. Which while it can be a full ride but it is money given to a Financial Group who qualify for it.

Sorry, I was driving.

As mentioned above, Ivy League schools don't give merit awards. Schools like Boston College and Georgetown also don't offer academic scholarships. The thinking is how do you differentiate between a 102 weighted GPA and another 102 weighted GPA? You can't, so they give their money in the form of need-based aid.

Something that came as a (pleasant) surprise during DD’s recruiting process at the university that she is currently attending, was finding out how they applied the % athletic scholarship.

It was on the total cost attendance, including books, fees, etc. It also included the most expensive dorm option. Which is probably typical, but what surprised us was that even when DD would move off campus, the COA total was still based on that dorm cost.

It is substantially cheaper to live off campus at her school and the university only requires one year of living in the dorms. So DD basically nets another $6K in athletic money for each of her last three years just by not living in the dorms.
