Upon previewing I see my pics are sideways. I don't know how to fix it so you'll have to turn your heads
We went to the tryout yesterday. It was a really good experience. We had to get up early and drive a little over an hour.
Then we had to wait in line for a relatively long time. The kid was still half asleep so we didn't really mind.
They had the pitchers and catchers (there were WAY more pitchers than catchers interestingly enough - DH caught for her) go to a field to warm up, then try out. They were supposed to throw 4 pitches, but we aren't letting ours do the screwball so she only threw 3. She did great though. No clue what her speed was but speed is not her strength anyway. Her accuracy was really good and her change up was great (that's always been her strong pitch). I was really proud of her. There were a couple of girls who were noticeably rock stars but she held her own for sure. Warming up:
I videoed part of it. She had a little forward lean (we're working on this a lot, slow progress) and she's doing the snapping her arm back thing again. Someday we will break her of that. But she was cool and collected We'll see if this works.

After pitching we went to hit. Their guidance of where to go when was not good. We were kind of winging and she went to the actual hitting before the exit speed station where she could have warmed up some. Her hitting was the most impressive thing all day. She was absolutely crushing it. She's such an amazing hitter when a coach is pitching, even fast. I told her she needs to remember that feeling of confidence and power hitting when she's facing a pitcher. I think most of her hitting issues are in her head. She told me her main focus was just on turning her hips. She hit it hard and didn't miss contact once (one foul).
At the exit speed station she got her swing evaluated by Lauren Chamberlain. Lauren is COOL. I want to be her BFF. I peeked at the radar, 59 mph. Here's her finishing a swing.
Then we did fielding. She looked a little bit rough but not bad, and told me after they were fielding a 12" ball. So that explains that - she's still using 11" in games. A lot of the girls looked a tiny bit sloppy and I wondered why. That 1" makes a big difference.
They did autographs, all the players were awesome. They'll announce who made the team in a week or so. Whether she does or not I think it was worth going. She thought it was a blast.
And on a slightly braggy note just to throw it in here, we played a friendly today. Our coach, well, kind of sucks. So she doesn't pitch as much as she should. But our #1 is hurt so she pitched more than usual and she looked fantastic. No runs on her but one and that was actually a strike out, who made it to first on a drop 3rd strike then the first baseman dropped the ball. She eventually scored but that was it. We beat the 05 Vipers 3-2; both runs they scored were off another pitcher.
