I'm currently a catcher on my high school and travel/college showcase team and I use a combination of a evoshield thumbgaurd and a palmgard glove in my custom Vinci catcher mitt. I use the evoshield thumbgaurd to prevent me from getting my thumb hyper extended. I use the palmgard glove to protect the palm of my hand, my pointer finger and my thumb since we have pitchers that throw at a high velocity as well as throw hard. Both of these products have been great. Also, it's not unusual for an evogaurd to stay in your catcher mitt. Mine does and I can maneuver my thumb around so it goes right into the guard.
