DD switched to lefty one year ago. 1st video is from the first day as a lefty. Other 2 are some recent tee swings. Looking for some feedback and suggestions on things too work on. Have come a long way but still a long way to go.

So Cal
Watch her hands. They pull up to the rear shoulder, and then drop downward before launching the bat to contact. This is a long and slow swing pattern with excessive hand travel that will struggle against good pitching. This is a very common pattern with young hitters, and often comes from the instruction to "swing level".

What we want to see is the swing being launched from the rear shoulder, with the bat swinging in a diagonal plane down to the ball, and the hands taking a much more direct path to turn the barrel to contact. Along with this is having the hands being the center of the bat's rotation, rather than arms swinging around the spine. The hands should work out-from the rear shoulder, not around the body.

Thanks for the feedback Eric. That pull back to the rear shoulder is relatively new. Probably my fault as I was trying to follow the walk the hands away from the feet type of cue. My unsuccessful attempt at teaching what is in these two videos.

Any advice on how to tweak the hands to get that stretch but not be so long?

Thanks

3rd video - low tee swings, made me laugh because it reminded me of my own DD. I have a major peeve about hitting in UGGS. I make her change, unless she is planning to play in them!

My kid hits barefoot half the time when we do inside practice. It's almost impossible to keep any shoes at all on her feet. She likes to practice left hitting too (she's a righty). Kids are funny.

The hands pulling up the to rear shoulder is good. The hands dropping before launching the barrel is not. The swing is long and slow because of the drop. Launch from the shoulder, in a diagonal plane to contact. Hands stay above the ball.

This is another swing from the other day with a high tee. Let me know what you think. I don't see the diagonal swing path you mentioned but I also don't really see the hands dropping. I need to work on my gif skills so I can draw in some of those fancy lines. Maybe that will help me see the hand path better.

Her hands are still leveling the barrel to the ball. It's not as pronounced with the high tee, but the leveling move is still there.

Understanding shoulder tilt and a proper swing plane is an important concept. Tilt gets the bat down to the ball.
