4 teams have local connections to our rec and travel program - Cypress Bay (8A) - Go Lightning!!, St Thomas Aquinas (7A), Pembroke Pines Charter (6A) and American Heritage (5A). Also Kings Academy and American Heritage-Delray also have local connections (though not as direct)
King's Academy (17-10) vs. Jacksonville Bishop Snyder (26-4), 3A state semifinal, 1 p.m. Wednesday: King's has scored 36 runs the past three games to help ace Allison Willcox (15-7). A state runner-up last year, Bishop Snyder is led by senior ace Sydney Wright (187 IP, 0.52 ERA, 242 Ks).
American Heritage-Delray (20-6) vs. Montverde (22-6), 3A state semifinal, 2 p.m. Wednesday: Corrie Boggess has been a force pitching (13-3, 1.28 ERA, 96 Ks) and at the plate (.479, 31 RBI, 10 doubles) for the Stallions. Jesse Dreswick (87 IP, 1.37 ERA, 99 Ks) and Lucia Lara (72 2/3 IP, 1.35 ERA, 104 Ks) have both been steady starters for Montverde.
American Heritage (23-4) vs. St. Johns Creekside (20-3), 5A state semifinal, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday: With ace Jenna Goodrich and an offense led by Ashley Belans, Patriots have outscored opponents 40-1 in past five games. Creekside, which had not won a playoff game until this year, won its final two regional games by a combined score of 16-0.
St. Thomas Aquinas (20-5) vs. Harmony (26-3), 7A state semifinal, 7 p.m. Wednesday: Led by clean-up hitter Gwen Svekis, the Raiders have scored 30 runs their past three games. The Longhorns have allowed just 17 runs all season with ace Lele Ocasio boasting an 0.42 ERA and 166 Ks in 117 IP.
Pembroke Pines Charter (20-3) vs. Gainesville (20-8), 6A state semifinal, 4:30 p.m. Friday: Freshman pitcher Claire Blount (112 2/3 IP, 1.3 ERA, 8 shutouts) and Victoria Gonzalez (.487, 20 RBI, 33 runs, 6 HR) have been stellar for Pines Charter. Making their first semifinals appearance, the Hurricanes have allowed a total of four runs their past four games.
Cypress Bay (20-5) vs. Winter Garden West Orange (25-5), 8A state semifinal, 7 p.m. Friday: Led by ace Sarah Maloney, the Lightning have allowed one run or fewer in their past nine games. Sluggers Mary Sloan Bradford and Sabrina Stutsman are major reason Warriors have scored double-digit runs in 14 games.
