I read this in the espn article about UCLA winning the NCAA women's volleyball title. Reminded me of a friend's daughter remembering the hotel stays more than anything else from her years of travel ball.

"I told the girls coming here that sooner or later, the national champion aura wears off," said UCLA coach Michael Sealy, who won a men's volleyball NCAA title as a Bruins player in 1993. "When you think back about this season, you may remember the match and the last point, but you're really going to remember the bus rides.

Yep. The car rides and motel stays and learning how to get through the airport. On the way to pitching lessons, (an hr. and a half, one way) we would stop at the same gas station and get chex mix.

As far as games go, she would re-call the game where racial tensions got out of hand and we had to walk off the field. But, I imagine that that is the only game that she recalls.
