Tomorrow night I will be with my softball friends to say goodbye to a coach who meant so much to so many people. I was privileged to know and be coached by Mac many decades ago on the North Jersey Shilohs travel softball team. When I heard the news of his passing yesterday, it was right before my husband came home, and I was upset. He asked me about Coach Mac and I told him that he was everything an adult who has the opportunity to have a positive influence on a young person should be. Many of us felt like he was a second dad. I personally know of 2 young ladies I played with that were going down the wrong path in life who credit him with turning their lives around and helping them believe that they were worth something to someone, even if it was their travel softball coach.

I thought the DFP family would appreciate this article from the county paper about Coach Mac. I hope the article gives you a sense of why my most cherished memories of softball include the summers playing for him.

Coach Mac
