If a batter fouls off a pitch with 2 strikes while attempting a slap bunt is she out??
It is when she gets a running start before tapping the ball.
A.S.A. and Fed ruleset.
Yes, provided it was a "bunt" attempt. If it was a slap attempt then it is a foul ball. The umpire determines whether it is a bunt or slap attempt. What exactly are you calling a slap bunt? What exactly does the batter do?
We had a player called out as "bunting" recently. She had a slap call. The ball hit went up the 3rd baseline 30' then rolled foul by 6" or so. The hitter.... She had feet moving, hands moving and the bat extended about 30% after the hit to the field. Bottom line.. She was not stationary with the bat or the hands. So this discussion has my attention. Not that I am holding it to anyone in exact detail but I am curious as to some cues as to what an umpire would perceive a drag bunt vs. slapping. Thus an out or a foul ball with 2 strikes on her in the count. Thanks in advance.
Just my own obersvations over dd learning the slap...even with a soft slap, she is attacking the ball...but stopping at contact. Her goal is to still hit the ball hard. Her wrists dont break. The girls who tend to get wrung up are the ones who just try to hit the ball softly on a soft slap. Once you lose the apperance of attacking the ball, it begins to look more like a drag bunt. JMHO
