7th inning runner on 1st is slow but takes off for second.
What should the catcher never do? Need more situations?
What is the offensive play?

The pattern form the elite (major) contributors will be to task you with a question about the question....

What age level ? Does she wear a mit or her glove... is she capable of making the throw, or is she in development, and one hopping this year ?

14u and up run a pick off play. 2nd covers steel at 2 and catcher throws hard to short to throw back to the catcher to get your leed runner at home. (Make sure out fielder knows too to back up play) hopefully this is what you are looking for?

There are so many variations. If on Offense I want the timing play where the runner on 1st attempts to get into a pickle and the runner on 3rd attempts to score. If on Defense, I want to watch for the timing play. With 2 outs gotta get the 3rd out before she scores. Or you can run mutiple types of pick off plays like the one mentioned above, or a variation of that is where the catcher looks like she is throwing through but fires the ball right back to the pitcher who then throws to 3rd/home depending on what the runner is doing.

anyone have good video of this play in a game or video of the drill. Does the Pitcher usually cut this or the shortstop?

You can run it several different way.... SS comes in to receive the throw, or 2B comes in to receive the throw, or the pitcher receives the throw. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work at the older ages, but it does give different looks.

X-pitcher I would disagree you IF F2 can get the runner (no run down) a bang/bang play then go for it since there are 2 outs. You didn't say top or bottom of the inning either.

The offense is trying to get a throw down to the bag, and the runner is going to make the catcher think she has a great chance of throwing the runner out at second, but the runner isn't going to the bag she is going to stop if she causes the throw all 90' to the bag. And to get the runner going home it is another 90' throw.

The defense play is to get the runner out with 2 short/er throws. By having the 2nd base charge up to the baseline and halfway between 1st and 2nd there is a better change of keeping the runner from scoring.

Generally the runner is just given 2nd base, but make a defensive play to get the runner at home or in a run down back to 3rd.

And it doesn't matter what inning or how many outs there are. It's a matter of not letting the runner score in a close game, or ever.

Seen to many long throws all the way to the bag and the runners scores and the runners is safe at 2nd because of a bad throw, when the runner should be taught not to go all the way to second base, but to stop and get into a rundown until the run scores.
