DD got to use the Rapsodo at a college camp a couple weeks ago and it is crazy cool. Didn't see DD's specific readings, but had our PC reach out to see if we could get the data from her throws. They had the app set up on an ipad and it measured speed, spin rate, spin axis, and break in both directions. The spin measured is about the actual spin access. What I thought was cool was that you tell it ahead of time what kind of pitch you're throwing and then it calculates a "spin efficiency" in % terms, based on the axis of your spin vs. ideal. Presumably if you tell it riseball, 100% is pure 6-12. I found it interesting to hear the college PC talk about his pitchers' riseball spin axes. He said that his best riseball pitcher was only around 60-65% efficiency. Went to their website and they have a video of Mike White using one and hitting around 95% efficiency. Now if I can only find a way to rationalize the $3K price tag as a good investment. ;)
