The starting pitcher, was pulled and replaced, by the 1st baseman. Starting pitcher, is now playing 1st base. Starting pitcher comes back to pitch, and pitcher goes back to first. Then starting pitcher is replaced again by first baseman. Is that legal? Though neither player left the field and just swapped positions, wouldn't the starting pitcher have to finish the game?

I am having trouble understanding your post but ….

The starting pitcher is allowed to reenter the game as a pitcher. If someone comes in relief they are done for the day pitching once they are pulled.

What ruleset are you asking about? You're not talking about a true "re-entry" here because they were still in the game, just playing another position, right? In USSSA, the player can only return once an inning to the pitching position (assuming it was done without a charged conference), as long as the player is not actually substituted for. In ASA, the pitcher can return to the pitching position any number of times as long as they are legally in the game. If the pitcher returns the same half inning, they get no warmup pitches.

Edit: USSSA rule 5.5.B ASA Rule 6.9

Not sure about NFHS or NCAA.

FED is same as Utrip. They can only return once per inning, and no warm ups if they do return to pitch in same inning.

If they just swap positions, they they should just be able to swap as much as the coach wants. Like Eddieq said!!
