Pants torn at the knee - mending suggestions?

Does anyone have advise on mending a tear at the knee in softball pants? My daughter tore her new uniform pants at the knee, first time sliding in them They are custom uniforms so not easily replaced.
Anyway - any successful mending advice? I can't seem to find a fabric patch that is flexible enough to patch at the knee. The tear is a bit too big to just stitch closed. Was thinking of cutting out a fabric patch from an old pair of pants and using that to patch. My sewing skills are subpar but not sure what else to do, lo!

i found a local tailor lady that does dress alternations to fix my DD's torn softball pants.

That's probably a good idea. Save me the hassle and frustration!
Did she just stitch it closed or use a patch of some sort, and at the knee did it last?

stitched a piece of fabric on the inside and criss cross all over it. lasted quite awhile if i recall. $10-15 well spent. usually took 3-5 days.
