I am interested to hear some thoughts on the split grip. I have not taught it to my players on the team or in my lessons, but doing more research.
My daughter has tried it and had two pieces of feed back one positive, one negative. 1) She said that the grip made her feel like the bat stayed square through the hitting area longer, and the ball felt like it was jumping off of the bat; 2) She has yet to get use to the feeling of not being able to release the bat after contact to finish, it feels restrictive to her.
My daughter hits for power & average, but at times gets a little long with her swing, and pulls her head/front shoulder. I've noticed that the split grip swing helps her stay on the ball and keep her head on it better.
Probably a topic for elsewhere ..... but the rear leg must be kept 'alive' so that it may be 'reactive' to the usage of the upper body ..... and one of the common ways to do that is with what many refer to as a 'stride'.
Looked through the entire thread and I think I've gathered all of the slaps in here. My DD is learning to slap, so I hope this will give her some inspiration and tips.
