Can we tell whether this is a situation that a face mask would have prevented/mitigated?

You may want to see her play a game or two before you go there. This is not 10U, unless it was glued to her face no way it would stay in place the way she plays.
Just a question since I didn't see it. I hate seeing girls at 14U playing without masks in the infield, so I was just wondering.
Very appropriate at that age. When you get into the level and intensity of play in the SEC masks both on defense and offense become a liability. The only exception is the pitcher position which is much less intense with regard to defense.
Good to know. And FYI: I earned two degrees at Alabama and love that team. DD met Demi at the camp last summer. I just didn't know and was wondering.

Simple answer, yes a facemask could have prevented or mitigated what happened but I agree with riseball that Demi would have issues playing with a facemask so it is really a moot point... This was a really freak accident and I don't know if I have ever seen one like it... I really hope Demi is ok but man she has had some bad luck... this, then last year tearing her shoulder out against LSU...
