Runner on 2b 2 outs. Infield pop up to SS. While SS camped under the ball waiting for the catch the runner from 2b makes slight contact with SS as she is about to catch the ball. SS drops the ball and we end up losing the game on the next batter. Shouldn't there have been an interference call on this? Does it matter that there was or if there wasnt contact? Also is the infield fly rule only with less then 2 outs?

1) should have been baserunner interference, and a 3rd out. The intent of the rule is to not have baserunners intentionally interfering with the fielders ability to make a play.

2) In-Field Fly Rule - has to be less than 2 outs, and runners on 1st & 2nd or bases loaded. The intent of the rule is to not have infielders intentionally dropping the ball to try to make a double or triple play.

There is no infield fly rule with 2 outs. Need runners on 1st and 2nd < 2 out for infield IF rule. If runner hit the field the runner should have been called out. Without contact I think it's up to umpire to determine if he(she) felt the runner interfered with the fielder.

"Intent" has nothing to do with interference as in this case. Contact is not necessary, but it does help. Be weary of someone who says, "There was contact. That has to be interference." Be even more weary of those who proclaim, "There's no interference because there was no contact."
