It would be quite embarrassing to spy what color they're using that day from a distance, slap the correct color wristband on, walk up and try to breeze through only to realize yours doesn't have host's printing on it. Or is a different pattern. Or have the same fastener. Or is a different width.
Even if you do get through, lots of people will spot you as a cheapskate.

Now that DD is in college, I realize in retrospect how much travel SB is a money suck.
And by money suck I mean it's almost as if the sport exists as an exercise in money extraction.
From the equipment, to the lessons, uniforms, team fees, airfare, hotel, rental car, gas, gate fees, parking fees, coach gifts, team outings, food, drink, etc. etc.
So many entities playing on parents hopes and fears.

Baseball gets cheaper as you move up.

Same here.

Youth softball / baseball used to be more of a communal sport - just need a glove and the team will provide the rest. Those days are long gone and I don't think we're any better for it.

You want to talk about gate fees - older DD was in All-Star cheer where we paid more than we do for TB. Gym fees and all-star fees. Then competitions - usually 6-7 a year with a few being out of state.
Add in hotel fees and travel. Then you go to a 2 day comp where the ticket price to see both days is $50 (oh yea - add in parking since at some of the big comps you have to park in a paid lot). To watch them perform for 5 minutes (the routines are 2 1/2 minutes). And that's if you can even see them over the other people standing in front of you :/

$10 for a gate fee to watch 5-6 games - that's cheap :)

biggest park around, Lou Berliner park in Columbus (33 turf fields) charges $5 per day per car. more for RV's or travel trailers. No getting around fees these days. and no real way to drop off and let them walk. it's a HIKE from entrance gate to say field 30. i'd estimate between 3/4 to 1 mile.

fairly common to be $3-6 daily gate fee just about any tourney these days. The ones that don't really advertise the fact that they don't.
Holy mackerel 33 turf fields!

Been there with competitive dance. "O.K. parents it's time for Super Jam Nationals. We will be ordering two new stupidly expensive outfits, and yes they will be hideously ugly and completely worthless after this competition, but we can't wear the same ones we wore to Jamfest Nationals, because of reasons."

yep. 33 turfed infields. not all have the best dugouts, but they are making improvements yearly. helluva complex to play at. can be a hike between fields for games and traffic leaving in evenings can be torturous.
Played there two summers ago and loved it. Been trying to go back but no luck yet. Biggest complaint was the distance to restrooms and concessions when we were playing on the furthest fields.

yes, it can be a hike to both. Usually the port-o-lets are relatively close depending on which exact fields. Concessions are rougher when you get down on field #29, 31, etc.

Lots of events there, Why the difficulty getting back? FYI they've been working on the highway for past 9 years, if you're waiting for it to be done, don't. LOL
