Looking for recommendations for a first catchers mitt for my dd. Will only be using 11" balls for 2 more years so maybe something that can make the transition to the bigger ball.
Have had really good results using a LS Xeno mitt. Was $60ish I used nokona glove cleaner on it and worked the pocket with a mallet and it was nice quick. Used for spring and fall of '15 and moving up to 12" balls in fall, it's been nice.
The Vinci Fortus would be perfect for you also - designed for the 8-13yo age range - super easy break in, and great Vinci quality. Its a bit smaller and lighter than the Xeno - as its only 32.5 and should last for 2-3 years with out any issues at all.
I just went through this similar debate about my 10U rising to 12U next spring. I ended up ordering three mitts to try, and two are going back today. These are the results. Between the Easton Core, Easton Synergy, and Vinci Fortus, the winner was the Vinci. The Easton Core didn't have the padding at all - despite being closer in price to the Vinci. The Easton Synergy was actually much closer structurally to the Vinci Fortus than the Easton Core. The Vinci just had the best pocket when we tested them with some throws. Vinci Fortus - it is!
