For the past 5 years, DD has caught almost every game she has played. Her new coach asked her where she played before catching and it was SS. So, after a long break from the rest of the field, she's getting some time at her old position and 3B. Here is a great catch she made at SS!
Nice job to your DD! At an instructional showcase last year, DD finally got a chance to play 3rd (her second position) in the all star game (100% coached by the college coaches). Really bad throw in the dirt to 3rd base by the second baseman, DD drops down, blocks the ball, fields it, dives and tags the runner to third and throws the ball home from her knees for the double play. The coach in the dugout (who is on her feet cheering) laughs to the other coach and says "once a catcher, always a catcher".
As long as she doesn't try to drop to her knees and block second on an attempted steal. My DD had never played SS in her life (lefty) until she had to her first year of JV because the #2 catcher was our SS. She learned a quick lesson that spikes hurt a lot more without shin guards on.
