A question popped in my head during a highschool game.
A player hits a homerun (over the fence), typically the team meets her at home to give congrats.
My question is if a teamate touches her BEFORE she steps on home could she be called out?

Only if the heart of the opposing coach is so small, so minuscule, so atomically insignificant, that it can be seen only from three feet away using the Hubble telescope. ESPN addressed the situation you described. The ruling should have been that the player was NOT out, but the umpires made the mistake.

This isn't an out in most amateur rule sets, and definitely isn't an out under standard high school rules.

NCAA softball has a rule prohibiting players from touching runners before they touch the plate. This fairly new rule came about when a runner was mobbed around home plate following a home run, preventing the umpires from seeing if the runner actually touched the plate. The defensive team appealed that she didn't, but the umpire couldn't tell for sure due to the mob scene. The appeal was denied, the coach raised a stink and...VIOLA...the next year there was a rule to address this.

But it's not an automatic out! The NCAA rule says that the team gets one warning if this happens. It takes a second violation before the runner is called out.
