just curious if there are any restrictions on a rec all star team playing in friendlies against TB teams to prep for the all star tournaments or if this would make them a "travel team" is the eyes of ASA and cause eligibility problems.

For our association, by rule, if it's after March 31st, no. Depending on where you are in the country, the dates might be different.

There won't be a roster check, but if someone from a rival league is aware that your team is in violation of the rule and decides to make a phone call, you could potentially cost your team its ASA 'B' status for the summer.

If you'd rather play travel than all-stars, then you should definitely do that.

thanks....it's not a matter of one vs the other, just trying to find creative ways to get tune up games in before the tourneys start. I noticed that some friendlies are being posted as "all star friendlies" so that looks like a good option to get games in while stying within the rules.

That's regarding players participating on a travel type team.

The applicable rules are:

II.A.4. A team shall participate ONLY with other leagues and teams that are registered with ASA/USA Softball.

II.B.5. A team that participates in a ASA/USA Softball “A”, Gold or any non‐ASA/USA travel ball type event is not eligible for participation in “B” Classification Championship Play.

We used to set up scrimmages with teams in other leagues.
