Seriously, I'd just consider none of this part of any swing - so no call on the catcher from me.

Well, it isn't your call, is it? Even idiots are allowed to play softball. Can you cite the definition of a "swing" in the rule book? Can you point out the section that instructs the batter in the mechanics and styles which must be followed to be within the rules?

The rule clearly states the catcher cannot obstruct the batter's swing and if that is what happened, it is CO.

Yes, it is a ridiculous, maybe even stupid method of hitting the ball, but there are a lot of stupid things that people do on the softball field, but that doesn't make it illegal or a rules violation.

My DD watched the youtube video and her comment was that it's stupid because batter gets thrown out anyway.
