Here I expected to see this:

Sure looks like he went around.

I had this happen to me coaching my baseball team scrimmage. Umps were training and the UIC watching. My pitcher threw one just high but the kid swung, ump calls it a ball. I just laugh and call time and ask for an appeal....the HPU didn't even know how to request another look. So bad. 12u btw

At least it was training, right. We need more umps, and they need to start somewhere and get some experience. Doesn't help you at the time, but perhaps with perspective.

One time I was pretty upset when the look back rule wasn't being enforced in one of our games. It wasn't a close call as is discussed in here sometimes. Pitcher has the ball in the circle in her glove at her hip but one runner in particular is repeatedly faking back and forth between bases. This went on after 3 or 4 pitches. Our pitcher is standing there looking back and forth between the runner and the bases ump kind of incredulously like "this isn't how we normally do it" while the runner stutter steps back and forth. People watching were making noises about it. I'm saying "people," but I acknowledge that others present at the time might say it was me. Between innings, I overhear the bases ump say to home plate "that's the look back rule you were telling me about wasn't it?" I took that to mean the bases ump hadn't worked much softball.

At the time, that comment kinda fanned the flames with me thinking why didn't he know the rules better. But it wasn't the end of the world. Umps gotta start somewhere.

Actually, the PU is just as bad as the BU if he knew the rule and did not enforce it.

Tie game in the bottom of the seventh in the district finals, my DD's team is up with a runner on 3rd. Other team decides to intentionally walk our hitter (this was before rule change and the pitches had to be pitched), the catcher sets up outside the catcher's box and the umpire, appropriately, called an illegal pitch. What he failed to do, however, was enforce the rule to advance the base runners. The game was postponed due to no field lights. When we resumed the next day, the other team ended up winning.

Did the catcher set up outside of the batter box? In softball the catcher's box is the width of both batter's boxes.

Yes, she was completely outside of the catcher's box before the pitch was delivered. The umpire recognized that he called an illegal pitch, but for some reason refused to enforce the penalty.

If the catcher was outside of the CB prior to the pitch, the umpire should never allowed the pitcher to begin.

Post this and use the term "Worst Call Ever" in the situation described (umplre straight-lined and her foot was off by an inch) ... seriously?

Some dad started 10 page post where he wanted the softball world to change the rules so that he could blame the umps for his daughter's team losing a game. Despite every poster on the forum telling him he was wrong he continued arguing and insulting for 9 more pages.

This post was a joke to make fun of that post.
