After a BB I know a player if no one is at 2nd base can continue to 2nd as log as they do not stop at 1st.
Question is
Can a player after a walk overrun the base and while they are walking back to the base can they turn and go to 2nd without any penalty?
Was told that the runner can but players usssa this past wkend and an experienced umpire said that we couldn't.
Thanks for any feed back.

Assuming the pitcher has the ball in the circle, if you don't stop on 1B the player is allowed 1 stop between 1st and 2nd but then must "immediately" advance to 2nd or return to 1st, unless a play is made on the runner in which case the LBR is now off. How long "immediately" is can vary depending on the umpire making the call.

If the P has the ball in the circle once the runner overruns 1b and turns either direction and starts back toward 1b they are committed to 1b. If they begin walking toward 1b and then take off to 2b they violate the lookback rule and should be called out.

If they over run and turn to go to 2b without starting back toward 1b they are fine to continue on.

Why would there ever be a need to overrun 1B on a walk? I don’t think there should be a rule preventing it, but I’m not seeing the point of ever needing to do it in the first place.

They get excited sometimes.

If ball is in circle and runner makes a move towards 1st she is committed to 1st, she should be called out if she trys to advance to 2nd.

Even a shoulder fake to 1st is enough to be committed.

(I also do not think it matters if someone is on 2nd or not)
