Situation R1 1 out. Batter hits a shot to LC. LF makes a great catch. the runner has already rounded second but does not retouch the bag. LF throws to SS who throws to first for the out so we didn't need to appeal. But it got me thinking about what if the throw was bad and the runner touched first and ran to second? I assume she would be out on appeal for not retouching but wasn't sure.

Yes, she would be out if properly appealed you would just have to make sure when making the appeal you tell the umpire exactly what you are appealing.

Comp it was our runner who did this is there any way for the runner to correct it. Could they run to second, touch the base and then go back to first or are they out on appeal if they retouch first prior to touching 2nd.

To correct the running error, the runner as you stated would literally have to run back to 2nd, touch it and then return to 1st and touch it again. This is where it gets interesting on the appeal. The rules state once a runner has passed a base they are assumed to have touched it until properly appealed. In the play you presented, the live ball appeal was being made on the runner for leaving 1st prior to first touch of a fly ball. If the runner had beat the throw back to 1st they should have been ruled safe on the live ball appeal. If the defense had seen the runner miss 2nd on the way back to 1st, they would then have to make another appeal for the runner not retouching 2nd on the way back.
