DD pitched in her first 12U Class A tournament. My observation was that she is middle of the pack as far as speed. 50-52. Her change is very good (umpire yelled that is a great change once). Her drop and curve are better than most. 52 if not spotted well is hit pretty hard. I didn't see everyone play but 56 was probably the hardest pitcher that I saw. DD pitched 8 innings total and gave up two runs. She had trouble striking people out with two strikes. Only one strike out on the day and every hit she gave up was with two strikes. Nice to see her grow.

I’ve seen a “a level 2nd string pitch a few rec games with us.
Seems to be another level of commitment to me. I did have one
father tell me she didn’t have anything on dd as she was a year
older .(made me feel better) :)
Sounds like your girls doing great!

Your experience is almost an exact duplicate of my DDs experience at 12A coming from 10B. Speed observations are spot on what we saw at some really solid tournaments in the midwest. Same with the lack of strikeouts. Seems like until you get north of 55 almost all A ball hitters are good enough at making contact it doesn’t much matter the pitch mix or location. At 10u we didn’t need very much defense at all...at 12s if your defense isn’t tight you aren’t going to do alot of winning. Thanks for your post.

My DD is also at end of her first year 12U A/B with same speed and she has had very similar experience. Last fall coming in from 10u could only manage 2 Ks per game but is now getting more like 7. Against the better batters almost all Ks are either on the change up or they are set up with the change up. If you can get in the batters head with the change up then follow with a slightly inside or high fastball you can get a swing and a miss. If you throw mostly fastballs and one is a little fat it gets hit at 52 mph.

My DD played in a solid B class tournament with one A class team the prior tournament and pitched 7 innings with 14 Ks and gave up 1 hit. Big difference was the strike outs. My DD is an 06 player. She is in her third year playing 12U but first time playing Class A ball.
